BARRY WOLFE was known in local cycling lore as the “Godfather of Cycling”.  An accomplished bicycle racer himself, Barry was a founder of the North Hollywood Wheelmen, and patron to several homegrown talents such as 1984 Olympian and current World Masters Champion Thurlow Rogers and fellow Olympian and Tour de France rider, Roy Knickman.  Barry was a dedicated cyclist, riding almost every day, and one of the original founders of the legendary ‘Simi Ride’, a 70+ mile off season training ride that has become a 45+ year old tradition, drawing national and international class riders among its participants, including 2006 TDF winner, Floyd Landis, and past TDF riders such as Andrea Peron, Peter van Petegem, Leon von Bon and Steve Bauer.  At age 55, Barry won a National Track Championship [side photo].  Barry was a dedicated father, husband and businessman.  Barry died peacefully in his sleep in July 2003 after a morning training ride in Santa Barbara, and enjoying the Prologue on the first day of the Tour de France in the company of his cycling friends.
